After Hours: US Navy Flight Surgeon
In funding his path to medical school, Dr. David Penberthy, medical director of radiation oncology at Bon Secours Southside Regional Medical Center, and current president of the Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC), undertook a military service requirement where he was selected to train as a flight surgeon for the US Navy. Dr. Penberthy speaks with The American Journal of Managed Care® on the exciting experiences he had onboard F-14 fighter jets, how his training as a flight surgeon continues to influence his career in radiation oncology, and what advice he would give those considering a similar path in medicine through the US military.
